One of the museums I visit most in Paris is "Les arts décoratifs". As the name suggests it is focused on decorative arts and it has a fashion and textiles section. Many important fashion exhibitions are held here mostly dedicated to the fashion history or fashion designers. To cite a few, Louis Vuitton-Marc Jacobs, Madeleine Vionnet, Sonia Rykiel, Valentino, Schiaparelli, Yohji Yamamoto, Jean Paul Gaultier and recently Dries Van Noten. The museum has its own collection of around 81.000 textiles (costumes, accessories etc), collected from when it opened in 1905.

Each time I go there to visit an exhibition I don't go back home without entering the boutique/bookshop at the entrance of the museum, called 107Rivoli. The book section has a good selection of fashion and arts books. Particularly interesting for the fact that books from old exhibitions can still be found there. From designer books to novels there is plenty of choice but wait….if you are an expat like me….not really. Almost all the books are in french which doesn't make sense considering the fact that it is in a "museum" in the most touristic location of Paris just next to the Louvre. So well…I've bought two books so far. One is an exhibition catalogue/book called "Paul Poiret couturier perfumer" and the other is "Seven sisters style" by Rebecca Tuite (just published by Rizzoli).

Go there even if you are not a french speaker…you will at least enjoy the tour. Guaranteed.
